About a year ago I became a follower of the “capsule wardrobe” tenet and it has has greatly simplified my life. Nowhere is it more obvious than when I pack for work trips back East. The temperature hasn’t dropped too much so I don’t expect much fall-like weather, and I need to plan for air-conditioned offices/planes/trains as well as make sure I get some good workouts in. This is the third time I’ve gone away for 1+ weeks and not checked a suitcase; it feels great after a long flight to just head right out to fresh air.
I try to keep my wardrobes pretty neutral so I can maximize the mix and match. I have cheated a tad by renting a dress and clutch for a wedding from Rent the Runway, so all I had to do was pick heels that will work with that dress and with several of my office outfits. Click the photo above to see all of the pieces neatly organized in my carry-on luggage.
Security at LAX is quite strict about the 2-bag maximum, so I always bring a weekender-style bag for my laptop, a pashmina to use on the flight and I tuck my purse into the big bag before going through security. I try to keep the weekender bag as light as possible. My toiletry kit and a curling iron, along with my iPad will go in the weekender bag as well.
Speaking of getting some exercise in, I re-upped my ClassPass with the intention of placing it on hold before the next month’s charge. For $100, I can take as many classes as I want in DC and, as long as I go to 4 classes (over 7 days – easy), I’ll come out ahead. When I get back to LA, I’ll have 2 weeks left to try a couple new studios downtown as well.
